What is AAPI Month?

AAPI is an acronym for Asian American Pacific Islander, and Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated during the month of May. This month

recognizes the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

While this month celebrates and acknowledges the Asian American and Pacific Islander culture, you do not necessarily need to be part of this community to celebrate.

How do I Celebrate?

1. Explore Asian Art

Consider the diverse cultures of the AAPI community by looking at Asian art at your local museum.

2. Watch a Movie

Watch this year’s Academy Award-winning film, “Nomadland,” directed by Chloe Zhao, the first Asian woman to win the top directing prize.  Or enjoy “Minari,” a sweeping story that follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American dream features s South Korea’s Youn Yuh-jung in her Academy –Award-winning role for supporting actor.

3. Try Asian/Pacific Food

Whether you opt to follow a recipe or try a new Asian/Pacific Islander restaurant, celebrating AAPI has never been more delicious!

4. Fashion

When you shop at the fashion retailers and brands on this list, you’ll also be supporting the AAPI community.
